Visualization: My Vision Room -- A Place for Mentoring

I want to create a room in my house — my office — that I’m going to call the vision room. I am into results, that’s part of who I am and what drives me. And in reading about my “mission, vision etc.” I have been thinking about the talents I have in life. I have a talent for helping people achieve their goals and I want to put it to use.

In some cases, this will be helping people find a home that works well for their family. I know this has been a big life-changing factor that has improved our marriage and finances.

In other cases, it’s going to be something completely different. In this VISION ROOM I want YOU to come up with and envision your life how you want it to be. Counselors teach that when you see your ideal life, there is usually one main change that is a catalyst — helping everything else fall into place. I want to help you identify that change and then act to make it a reality. I would love to do a weekly call or a daily text reminder or something to that effect to follow up with you.

See, when I talked to a friend who is in Med school, I thought he was learning completely different things from what I had studied in alternative health. Not so! Overall, they teach stuff like that Americans need a lot less protein and that milk doesn’t always prevent osteoporosis etc. (I can’t remember it exactly, just that it was surprising and the overall idea that SO much can be fixed or prevented with good nutrition). But doctors already know that Americans won’t go that extreme. We really won’t do what is good for us. So, they simplify it, teach that small changes are what matter. They have been doing this pilot program where the patient thinks of one change she wants to make in her health. See, the only way they’ve found that this works is if the person chooses that change. Also, we usually know what is most important for us to change. So, someone chooses to give up smoking, for instance. Then that health counselor follows up with them every day and asks about their progress — through text. They are having great success.

So, I’m going to try this program with YOU — my friends. I’m not going to charge, but the condition is that you are willing to make some progress; that you are ready for change in your life. Sound like a deal? Then here are some topics I’ve studied that I would love to draw from as we talk.

In college I studied Home and Family Living — which covered everything from marriage to theories about children’s chores.

In terms of marriage, I’ve loved learning major stressors on marriages, predicting divorce accurately, intimacy, prosaics of building a sustainable marriage, love languages, marriage in policy (esp. gay marriages and the affects they have on society and children), “amae,” which is the longing to belong etc.

Self care — how to be yourself AND a mom/wife, finding the balance, how to make a schedule that works for you, meditation, yoga, fitness routines and schedules, weight loss, energy work and the body as an electrical system, home organization, personality types etc.

I’ve also studied raw eating, veganism, living foods, nutritarianism, buying organic vs. conventional, herbal remedies, salt, sugars, PH and it’s affects on disease, wheatgrass for health, detoxification, cleansing from heavy metals, juicing vs. smoothies etc.

Raising children including how violence affects them, how children learn, divorce and if kids would rather their parents stay mad and married or be divorced and happy, how family meal time affects families, the positive influence of fathers, motherese and nurturing, learning through play, homeschooling, parenting styles, and how to structure chores.

I would love to help you set up an eating plan to lose weight or to avoid cravings or get more nutrition or cure a specific disease. It would be fun to develop a work out plan that works well for you.

I would LOVE to counsel about how to be more kind to your spouse and to pray for them.

Just today on my call, my friend helped me come up with a solution to keep my child in bed until a decent hour of the morning…and I’m excited to see if it works! See, we do this all the time for each other!

I am so grateful for mentors who have lived these principles, found solutions that worked well for them, and then shared them with me. I can’t wait to mentor you!
