Open Heart Challenge Day 9
Changed by Christ
“We are each spiritually begotten sons and daughters of God, but Heavenly Father tells us we become His sons and daughters in a more different and profound way when we become true followers of His son Jesus Christ. Perhaps this is the new man C.S. Lewis describes. He said, ‘Every now and then one meets them. Their very voices and faces are different from ours: stronger, quieter, happier, more radiant. They begin where most of us leave off. They are, I say, recognisable; but you must know what to look for….They do not draw attention to themselves…They love you more than other men do, but they need you less. (We must get over wanting to be NEEDED: in some goodish people, specially women, that is the hardest of all temptations to resist.) They will usually seem to have a lot of time: you will wonder where it comes from.” Lewis says this new way of being is something we get from Christ. He continues “And He transmits it not by heredity but by what I have called 'good infection.' Everyone who gets it gets it by personal contact with Him. Other men become 'new' by being 'in Him' (Mere Christianity) Do you see why it is essential to be filled with His love? It doesn’t just make life nicer or more pleasant and comfortable. Being filled with the love of God actually changes everything because it has the power to completely change us inside. You see, over time it changes us from the natural man into a true son or daughter of God. A sanctified being, one who has finally become like Him. And that’s what we’re here on earth, to become like Him and help others do the same. I want a heart like His. What about you?” (Ibid.).
